Hashawha Hills 50 km Trail Run
The Hashawha Hills 50 km trail run takes place at the Hashawha Environmental Center Bear Branch Nature Center in Westminster, MD. The course covers 31 miles of mixed surfaces and about 5,800 feet of total ascent and descent. The route is mostly single track with some old woods roads and open fields, about two miles of asphalt and three miles of gravel; approximately 26 miles are trail. Runners should expect several stream crossings and numerous small hills.
Course markings include pink ribbons, small pink flags, blue arrow signs, and red ribbons across intersecting trails. The route is runnable and will be marked for the entire distance, but attention to the markings is required. There are five aid stations along the course, one of which accepts drop bags; aid stations provide water, sports drink, sandwiches, snacks, and soda. The longest gap between aid stations can be up to 8.5 miles. A 9 hour time limit applies, and there is an intermediate cutoff at the 15.5 mile aid station.
Pre race and post race activities are held indoors in a heated auditorium with bathrooms and hot food and drink available at the finish. The start and finish are at a covered picnic pavilion a short walk from the auditorium. Parking is limited and the park remains open to the public. The event follows the VHTRC policy on personal listening devices and the club cancellation policy.
Entry is handled through Ultrasignup. The 2027 entry lottery opens on January 1, 2027 and remains open for ten days. Refunds are available less five dollars and require a wait list replacement. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
