Hashawha Hills 50 km Trail Run
The Hashawha Hills 50 km is a single-loop trail event held at the Hashawha Environmental Center Bear Branch Nature Center in Westminster, MD on February 27, 2027. The course covers 50 km (31 miles) with about 5,800 feet of total ascent and descent.
The route includes roughly two miles of asphalt, three miles of gravel road, and about 26 miles of single-track trail, plus old woods roads and open fields. There are a few stream crossings where feet will get wet and numerous small hills along with a few larger climbs. The terrain has no significant rocks or roots and changes from wooded sections to meadows with views of rolling farmland.
Course marking uses pink ribbons, small flags, sign posts, and blue arrow signs. Intersecting trails are often blocked with red ribbons; runners are advised to follow the nearest pink marking and not to cross red barriers.
There are five aid stations, one of which accepts drop bags. Stations are stocked with water, sports drink, sandwiches, snacks, and soda. Runners may need to cover up to 8.5 miles between aid stations. The start and finish are located at a covered picnic pavilion a short walk from the indoor auditorium.
Pre-race and post-race activities are indoors in the heated Bear Branch auditorium where bathrooms and hot food and drink are available. Parking at the park is limited and the center remains open to the public during the event.
Entry for 2027 is managed on Ultrasignup and the lottery opens January 1, 2027 for ten days. The wait list gives priority to prior finishers and volunteers. A nine hour time limit applies to complete the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
