The hella hamburg half marathon is a major urban road race in Germany. It is officially recognized as the second largest stand-alone half marathon in the country and holds a World Athletics Road Race Label. The course is an officially measured point-to-point route of 21.0975 km, making results eligible for best time lists.
The route is primarily flat and fully paved, kept clear of traffic by police and volunteers. It starts on the Reeperbahn and passes several tourist attractions in Hamburg, ending at the Expo area. Entertainment is provided along the track by over 40 artists, musicians, and DJs.

The half marathon is open to participants born in 2010 or earlier, with no club affiliation required. The field is limited to 24,000 runners. The kids' races are designated for children born between 2013 and 2021.
Participants have a maximum time limit of 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the half marathon course. Refreshment points providing water are located at seven stations along the route, with additional catering available at the finish.
