Hairy Nation Days 5K
The Hairy Nation Days 5K is an annual running and walking event held in the small town of Bloomfield, located in southern Iowa. Organized as part of local heritage celebrations, the event provides participants with the opportunity to traverse the streets of this historic community. The course is designed for both runners and walkers, following a route that showcases the local landscape and hospitality of the region.
Participants compete across various age divisions for recognition. Medals are awarded to the winners in multiple categories, including boys and girls aged 10 and under, as well as male and female divisions for ages 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. This structure ensures that participants of different age groups are recognized for their performance within the event.
The proceeds from the race are dedicated to community improvement projects. Specifically, the funds support the beautification of the historic town square and the Bloomfield Main Street area. Logistics for the event, including packet pickup, are centered at the Bloomfield Main Street Office located at the southwest corner of the town square on East Franklin Street.
