About the race
Bacon Run is an annual community running event in Ottumwa, Iowa, held in conjunction with the BaconTown food festival at the Bridge View Center. The course follows a scenic route along the Des Moines River on a private concrete and asphalt path. Chip timing is included.

- 5 Mile course along the Des Moines River on private path
- 5K option on the same riverside route
- 1 Mile Piggy Wiggy family-friendly one-mile route
Registered participants receive a race T-shirt, one pound of packaged JBS bacon, five Bacon Bucks to spend inside BaconTown, and a heavy 2.5" Bacon Run finisher medallion that also grants early entry to BaconTown. Cash prizes are awarded to top finishers in age categories. Packet pick up takes place the morning of the event at the Bridge View Center; participants who want a guaranteed T-shirt size must complete registration by November 7.
BaconTown transforms the Bridge View Center into a bacon-themed market using a 13,000 square foot backdrop with vendor storefronts selling bacon items. Admission to BaconTown is free; most bacon items are priced at about $1, with some items at $2 or $3. A Kidz Zone inside BaconTown offers carnival rides, games, face painting, and inflatables in the same arena space. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
