The Bacon Run is a community running event held in conjunction with the Bacon Fest known as BaconTown in Ottumwa. The event uses a private concrete and asphalt path along the Des Moines River for a scenic run and walk. The on-site festival area includes indoor and outdoor vendor space and a transformed Bridge View Center backdrop.

Registered participants receive a race shirt, one pound of packaged JBS bacon, five Bacon Bucks for use at BaconTown, early entry to BaconTown before public opening, and a 3-inch finish medallion. The Kidz Zone inside BaconTown is free and includes games, indoor carnival rides, face painting and inflatables. Packet pick up takes place the morning of the event; registrations completed by November 7 guarantee a shirt in the requested size, later registrations are on a best-effort basis, and shirts will not be shipped if not picked up on the event day.
The Bridge View Center area is arranged as a downtown street scene using 13,000 square feet of backdrop with vendors offering bacon themed foods. Admission to BaconTown is free; most bacon items are priced at $1 with some items at $2 or $3. Water, soda and adult beverages are available. Live music by The Mondeau Dukes is scheduled during the festival with moderated volume to allow conversation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
