Hair of the Dog is a one-day running and community event at Atypical Brewery & Barrelworks, 510 East Central Ave, Minot, ND. The event benefits local animal rescue organizations. Multiple event types are offered, including these distances:
- 5K
- Beer Mile (four 1/4-mile loops = 1 mile total)
- Kids Donut Dash (1/4 mile)
- Wiener Dog Derby
Registration fees listed by the organizer include $30 for the 5K, $40 for the individual Beer Mile, $55 for a Beer Mile relay team, $10 for the Kids Donut Dash, and $20 for the Wiener Dog Derby. Prices increase after specified dates in April 2026. Same-day registration and packet pickup are available, and packet pickup is offered the day before the event and the morning of the event.
Event format, rules, and amenities
The 5K is timed and allows participants to run, jog, walk, or bring a dog. All human 5K participants receive a signature mug and a post-run beer at Atypical. The Beer Mile requires consumption of one full can of beer in a designated Beer Zone before each 1/4-mile loop; a penalty lap is required if a participant vomits. Beer Mile participants must show proof of age and will receive a wrist bracelet, a signature mug, and the four beers used in the event. The Kids Donut Dash is for children 12 and under; participants eat a donut and run 1/4 mile and receive a participation medal. The Wiener Dog Derby is open to Dachshunds and mixes; each dog receives a treat bag and custom bandana, and top dogs are awarded. Awards are given for top finishers in the 5K, Beer Mile, and Wiener Dog Derby. Food trucks, pet-friendly vendor booths, and fundraising activities will be present.
