The Rhondda Rollercoaster
The South Wales LDWA returns the Rhondda Rollercoaster, a waymarked event based at Trehafod Community Village Hall in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Participants can choose between two distances and follow routes that move across the hills and moorland of the Rhondda Valleys. Both routes begin with a climb through the forests of Mynydd y Glyn and pass over Mynydd y Cymmer before splitting.
The longer route is about 26.5 miles and follows a revised course over moorland and through woods toward a glacial cwm with views at Bwlch y Clawdd, then returns via Ton Pentre and Ferndale. The shorter route is about 16 miles, descending to Dinas then climbing toward Rhondda Golf Club with views across both valleys. The routes rejoin for a final climb to the Tylorstown tip viewpoint and the run home.
Practical arrangements include tea and toast at the start, indoor and outdoor checkpoints with refreshments along both routes, and a hot meal at the finish. All participants receive a certificate of completion. Entries open 1 October 2026 and close 15 April 2027 or earlier if spaces fill, with a waiting list used once full. Minimum age is 18.
