GutCheck Cape Cod 2026
GutCheck Cape Cod is a point to point multisport event held within DCR Nickerson State Park in Brewster, Massachusetts. The course combines trail running, road cycling, orienteering and water crossings, with athletes choosing either a swimming or board paddling category. The exact course configuration is revealed shortly before the race and changes from year to year.
Distances and segments include:
- Trail running: 1000 vertical feet.
- Road cycling: 1000 vertical feet.
- Swim segments: up to four, each 1/2 mile or less.
- Paddling total: up to 1.5 miles across multiple ponds.
Racers may compete solo or in teams of two, three or four; all teammates must remain in close contact and finish together. Expected finishing times vary by ability; fast athletes often finish in about 90 to 120 minutes while others should plan on two or more hours. Time cutoffs are described as generous. Competitors present themselves at designated checkpoints along the route; water and nutrition are provided at roughly six to ten checkpoints.
Recommended preparation includes trail runs of about four to six miles and road rides of five to ten miles with hills. Equipment notes: road bike with helmet is required, mountain bikes are permitted, paddlers need a board with a leash or may reserve a limited rental board, and swimmers may use a drybag or swim buoy for shoes. Wetsuits are allowed; water temperatures are typically upper 60s to low 70s. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
