GutCheck Cape Cod
GutCheck Cape Cod is a point to point event through DCR Nickerson State Park in Brewster, Massachusetts on September 19, 2026. The course combines trail running, road cycling, orienteering and water crossing; the exact route is changed each year and is announced shortly before the race.
Competitors may race solo or in teams of two, three or four. Team members must remain together and finish at the same time. The event includes multiple checkpoints where athletes must present themselves and where water and nutrition are supplied; there are typically six to ten checkpoints per race.
Distances and typical segments:
- Trail run: 4 to 6 miles of trail running
- Road cycling: 5 to 10 miles with hills
- Water crossing: up to 1500 yards swimming or up to 1.5 miles paddling
Swim segments will number no more than four and each swim segment is 1/2 mile or less; paddle segments may be longer. Paddling may use SUP, kneeling paddleboards or surfboards; kayaks and canoes are not allowed. A limited supply of rental boards is available. Competitors should bring a road bike and helmet; mountain bikes are permitted.
Expected finishing times range from 1.5 to 2 hours for many fast athletes, with other participants taking longer. Water temperatures across the ponds are typically in the upper 60s to low 70s. All participants must be 18 or older. Awards are given for male and female solo categories, age groups, and 2, 3, and 4 person teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
