Gunnison Valley Triathlon
The Gunnison Valley Triathlon is a sprint distance event held out of the Gunnison Recreation Center at 200 E. Spencer Ave. The swim takes place in the Community & Aquatics Center pool, the bike course runs on paved surfaces using the local bike path and County Road #730, and the run follows the Van Tuyl Trail on a gravel surface, finishing at the Community Center. The transition zone is staged on the lawn east of the pool and is accessible 1.5 hours before each race.
Distances include:
- 500 yards swim (10 laps)
- 23 km bike course on asphalt
- 6.4 km run on gravel Van Tuyl Trail
The event offers multiple race formats including a kids triathlon, a sprint triathlon for adults, and team relay categories. Registration fees listed by the organizer are $25 for kids, $80 for adults, and $150 for teams, with rates increasing on 8/2/26. All participants receive a T-shirt at registration. The top three finishers in each age category receive medals. An after party includes an award ceremony, food and beverages for participants, and a beer and seltzer garden.
Age groupings are provided for children (3-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-14) and adults (15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
