Sage Burner Trail Race

The Sage Burner Trail Race is held in the Hartman Rocks Recreation Area near Gunnison, Colorado, on October 3, 2026. The event takes place near Black Canyon National Park and offers expansive views of the Maroon Bells, the San Juan Mountains, and the Gunnison Basin.

The event includes these distances:

  • 50K
  • 28K
  • 15K

The course mixes technical slickrock, smooth singletrack, and doubletrack terrain. Runners will encounter rolling hills and punchy climbs in a high desert climate. The setting provides varied footing and open vistas rather than a flat or uniform trail.

The organizer lists detailed information such as fuel station mileages and cutoffs, food and hydration, race rules, distance changes, refund policy, and recommended gear in the event guide. The race partners with two trail running initiatives that aim to increase participation among 14 to 19 year olds and among womxn. A 15 percent registration discount is available through the organizer by contacting them.

All participants receive a running hat by BOCO Gear, a commemorative finisher medal, and a Hydrapak collapsible reusable speed cup. The event works with the Hydrapak Sustainable Racing Program to reduce race day waste. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
