Sage Burner Trail Race
Sage Burner Trail Race is held at Hartman Rocks Recreation Area in Gunnison, Colorado, near Black Canyon National Park. The event features multiple off road distances and routes through a high desert mountain basin landscape.
The terrain includes technical slickrock, smooth singletrack, and faster doubletrack. The course passes rolling hills and punchy climbs and offers wide views of the Maroon Bells, the San Juan Mountains, and the Gunnison Basin. The race setting is characterized by sage brush covered hills and a high desert climate.
Additional event details are provided in the race guide, including fuel station mileage and cutoffs, food and hydration, race rules, distance changes, refund policy, and recommended gear. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to Gunnison Trails, an organization that builds and maintains local trails.
The race partners with organizations focused on increasing participation in trail running, including a Youth Trail Running Initiative for 14 to 19 year old athletes and Trail Sisters to increase womxn participation. Organizers note a 15% discount available through partner arrangements.
All participants receive event gear including a running hat from BOCO Gear, a commemorative finisher medal, and a Hydrapak collapsible reusable speed cup. The event partners with the Hydrapak Sustainable Racing Program to reduce race day waste. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
