Groovy Granite is a trail race near Lee River, Manitoba. This is the third edition, held on the grounds of the AECL Underground Research Laboratory, located on Treaty 1 territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

The course is a loop that follows the rim of a large granite batholith. Runners pass through boreal forest and weathered rock with views of the Lee River. Distances offered:

  • 21 km
  • 14 km
  • 7 km

An aid station at the start/finish supplies water, electrolytes, Sunrype bars, fruit, chips, and pickles. The race is cupless; participants must bring a reusable cup or hydration pack. Drop bags are available for 14 km and 21 km entrants. St. John Ambulance will provide on-site medical coverage. The Race Director may remove participants for safety reasons. A four-hour cutoff applies to the course.

Registration opens February 8, 2026, and an early bird deadline of May 10 secures custom gear and a personalized bib. All finishers receive a custom medal and top finishers earn unique awards. A BBQ voucher is included with registration. The event policy states no refunds and allows bib transfers until June 7. Parking is limited.
