Grizzly Ultra Marathon
The Grizzly Ultra Marathon takes place on October 9 and 10, 2027 at the Canmore Nordic Centre. The event is offered as a solo ultra and a relay composed of five legs that all start and finish in the main stadium area.
The full course is 50 km with a total elevation gain of 1595 meters. Each leg is graded with a Grizzly Claw Rating based on distance and elevation; Leg 3 is rated 5 Claws and Leg 5 is rated 1 Claw. Relay options include two- and five-person teams. Published entry fees include Solo $300, 2-person teams $400, and 5-person teams $600 before taxes and online processing fees. Registration opens November 1 at 08:00 MST.
Entry includes awards for top age group and team winners, finisher medals and a ceramic campfire finisher mug for solo and team finishers, aid station hydration and nutrition, finish line Grizzly Paw Soda, a trained medical and evacuation team, detailed course marking, and accurate chip timing with individual leg results. A free Grizzly Kids Race is offered for participants 12 years and under with short age-group distances.
Safety and event rules include a mandatory bear spray requirement with a pre-race check, a required Kananaskis Conservation Pass for parking (one per vehicle), one timing chip per team that must be exchanged and returned, and a nine hour event cutoff. The event is cup-less so participants should bring refillable containers. Littering or failure to follow mandatory equipment rules may result in disqualification. Team package pickup rules require team captains and photo identification; bib transfers are not permitted. If the event is cancelled, refunds or rollovers follow the posted policy.
