Gritline East Fork Challenge
The East Fork Challenge is an adventure race held at East Fork State Park on September 12, 2026. The event offers two timed courses that combine paddling, trekking, and mountain biking. Maps, checkpoints, and written race instructions are provided to teams on race day. No support crew is required.
Distances for each race are approximately:
- 6 hour race: about 5 miles paddling, 5-8 miles trekking, 10-15 miles on road and singletrack.
- 12 hour race: about 10-15 miles paddling, 10-15 miles trekking, 30-35 miles on road and singletrack.
Divisions accept solo competitors and teams of 2 to 4 people of any gender. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each race. The start location within the park is the Matt Maupin Pavilion on the south side of the lake.
Entry fees are listed as $80 for the 6 hour race and $120 for the 12 hour race. Boat rental fees are $60 per canoe and $30 per kayak. Canoe rentals include the boat, personal flotation devices, and paddles and will be delivered to the event area; kayaks are available only for solo racers. T shirts are included for participants who register by July 31.
Required individual gear includes a 2 L water supply, headlamp, waterproof jacket, and whistle. Biking sections require a mountain bike, helmet, and rear flashing light. Paddling sections require a personal flotation device and paddle. Team gear includes a compass, provided maps and passport, first aid kit, knife, waterproof phone bag, water purification method, waterproof map case, and a boat for paddling sections.
