Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra - Wingate, IN
The event is a backyard ultra held Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 3272 East New Richmond Road in Wingate, Indiana. The course is a single repeating loop that measures 4 miles 880 feet and is laid out as an out-and-back with a short grass trail loop near the end.
Running surfaces are approximately one half mile of gravel, one half mile of grass, and 3.167 miles of road with decent shoulders. The course layout uses four one mile straightaways and a short connection to form each yard.
The starting corral is measured to fit the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event. Competitors must be in the corral at the bell. Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop, with warnings given at three, two, and one minute before each start; all competitors must start at the bell and late starts are not allowed.
During a loop, competitors may not leave the course except for restroom use. Portapotties will be located near the starting corral. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, including eliminated runners. Personal aid during a loop is not permitted, though common aid stations are allowed. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Each loop must be completed within one hour to count, including the final lap, and slower runners must allow passes.
Organizers will track which runners finish each loop but will not provide official timing for individual loops. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all others are recorded as DNF. Results will report distance covered by each runner. The event permits tent or canopy setup the night before. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
