Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra : Wingate, IN
Grind on the Grid is a Backyard Ultra held near Wingate, Indiana, on a measured course of 4 miles 880 feet. The route is an out and back with a short grass trail loop near the end. Running surfaces include approximately 0.5 mile of gravel, 0.5 mile of grass, and 3.167 miles of road with shoulders. The course layout is built from straight sections approximating one mile squares.
The event uses a fixed starting corral sized to hold the entire field; the corral size remains the same throughout the event and competitors must be in the corral at the bell. Each loop begins one hour after the previous loop. Competitors must complete each loop within the hour to have it counted. Except for restroom breaks, runners may not leave the course until a loop is finished. Portapotties will be located near the starting corral.
Common aid stations are allowed but personal aid during a loop is not. Artificial aids including trekking poles are not permitted. Slower runners are expected to allow passes. Organizers will track who finishes each loop but will not produce official individual loop times. The winner is the last runner to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than all others, no winner is declared.
