Event overview
Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 3272 East New Richmond Road, Wingate, IN. Registration closes on May 7. The organizer is targeting a field of about 100 runners. Tent and canopy setup will be allowed the night before the event. Portapotties will be available near the starting corral.
Course and rules
The loop course is 4 miles 880 feet in length. It is an out-and-back with a short grass-trail loop near the end. The running surface is approximately 0.5 mile gravel, 0.5 mile grass, and 3.167 miles of road with decent shoulders.
Key rules: each loop must be completed within an hour to count. Each loop starts precisely one hour after the last. Competitors must remain on course until a loop is completed, and no non-competitors are allowed on the course, including eliminated runners. Personal aid during a loop is not allowed; common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are prohibited. Slower runners must allow passing. The event will not provide official per-loop timing for individual runners but will track who finishes each loop. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner. Results will report distance covered for each runner.
