Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra : Wingate, IN
The event is a backyard ultra held at 3272 East New Richmond Road, Wingate, IN. The course is required to measure 4 miles 880 feet and is an out and back route with a short grass trail loop near the end. Surfaces are approximately 0.5 mile gravel, 0.5 mile grass, and 3.167 miles of road with decent shoulders. The course layout is designed so each completed circuit counts as a single yard.
Starts occur on the hour for each loop. Organizers give warnings at three, two, and one minute before each start. All competitors must begin at the bell; late starts are not allowed. A measured starting corral sized for the entire field remains the same throughout the event. Portapotties are available near the starting corral.
Loop rules restrict leaving the course except for restroom use. No non competitors are allowed on the course, including runners who have been eliminated. Personal aid during a loop is not allowed though common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids including trekking poles are prohibited. Slower runners must allow passes.
Timing will track who finishes each loop rather than providing official split times for each runner. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all others are recorded as DNF with results reported by distance covered. Tent and canopy setup is allowed the night before the event. Registration closes Thu, May 7 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
