Event overview

The Grim Challenge is a winter trail running event at the Army Tank Training Area, Fleet Road, Aldershot. The route runs over army vehicle testing ground and uses natural terrain features rather than man-made obstacles. The course can include thick mud, water up to waist height, and steep sections formed by vehicle tracks and weather. The event offers two distance options and provides medals and a GRIM beanie to finishers. Energy products are available on course and at the finish, and race photos are provided as free digital downloads. Medical support, secure baggage storage, urinals and portable toilets are available on site.

Race details, entry and logistics

  • 8 miles - main race over the testing ground.
  • 4 miles - shorter route on the same terrain.

Entries are open for both distances. Early bird and standard pricing tiers are listed for 2025 entries. Charity places are offered at reduced entry fees with fundraising commitments: charity entrants for the 4-mile option commit to raise £75, and charity entrants for the 8-mile option commit to raise £100. Minimum ages are 16 for the 8-mile race and 13 for the 4-mile race. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in male and female categories and masters age groups.

Two car parks are available off Fleet Road, both with hard standing and a 5-10 minute walk to the start village; each car park has a single entrance and exit. Marshals direct traffic on arrival. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
