Grey Rock Trail Runs, Yakima WA
Grey Rock Trail Runs are summer trail events in the Cascade Mountains near Yakima, WA. The event is in its 16th year and uses Tree Phones Campground in the Ahtanum State Forest as the start location. The courses are out and back single track routes that pass open ridges and forested stretches.
The longer course, the 25K, includes more than 3500 ft of elevation gain and features rocky as well as smooth forest trails. A shorter 12K follows the same general route as the 25K. Higher mountain elevation generally keeps temperatures lower, but conditions can still become very warm by mid day.
Aid stations are placed along the route with water, electrolyte drinks, power bars and gels at the 25K turnaround. Participants are advised to carry water and snacks with them. Awards include medals for the top three men and top three women in each event. Light refreshments are provided after the race.
Practical notes: a Washington State Discover Pass is required for vehicle parking. Custom short sleeve tech T shirts are available for purchase for $30; orders placed after June 30 may not be available on race day. Check in is at Tree Phones Campground approximately 30 minutes before each race and there will be a short pre race briefing. No refunds.
