50th Annual Great Waldensian Footrace
The Great Waldensian Footrace celebrates its 50th anniversary in Valdese. This long-running event is held in conjunction with the Festival of the Glorious Return and the Historic Valdese Festival. It offers three distinct distances for participants:
- 5,000 Meter Run (5K)
- 10,000 Meter Run (10K)
- 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
The event center is located at the Valdese Community Center on Massel Avenue. Following the runs, all registered participants and their guests are invited to utilize the Valdese Community Pool for a post-race swim. The surrounding festival features various activities throughout the day, including local crafts, food, live entertainment, music, and rides.
Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in all events. For the 1 mile distance, awards are restricted to participants aged 13 or under. In the 5K and 10K races, age group awards are provided for the top three male and female finishers in divisions ranging from 14 and under to 80 and over.
Packet pickup and day of race registration take place at the community center. Tee shirts are provided to participants, though sizing is guaranteed only for those who register by mid-July. Registration fees vary based on the date of entry, with a discounted rate available for students participating in the longer distances.
