Coventry Building Society Great North SwimRun at Lake Windermere
The Great North SwimRun combines open water swimming with trail running on courses around Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Participants complete multiple swim and run stages while carrying their own kit; clothing changes during the race are not permitted and wetsuits are compulsory. Competitors wear trainers and wetsuits for both water and land sections.
Distances offered include:
- SwimRun Short: swim 2090 m, run 10.2 km, total 12.90 km, age 16+
- SwimRun: swim 3590 m, run 20.2 km, total 23.9 km, age 17+
Entry details state standard and final 2026 prices for each distance and a booking fee applies at checkout. Feed stations on course supply water, bars, bloks and energy gels. The terrain is mixed and at times difficult; routes use trails and public paths and are marked, but competitors receive a course map and should have basic map reading skills and a compass.
Key rules and safety notes: competitors must carry all required equipment and may be disqualified for receiving external support or breaching rules. Minimum swimming ability required is half a mile unaided in open water. Timing chips attach to the ankle with mats at the race start and finish. There is no cut off for the Short distance. For the SwimRun distance a single safety cut off may be enforced at Brathay Hall at 4 hours to reach that point. Baggage and changing facilities are provided near finish areas.
