Coventry Building Society Great North SwimRun
The Great North SwimRun takes place at Windermere in the Lake District. This multisport event involves completing multiple swimming and running stages in a continuous format. Participants follow a trail route through natural terrain while carrying all required equipment, including wetsuits and trainers, from the start to the finish.
Participants can choose between two different distances:
- SwimRun Short: This option includes 2090 m of swimming and 10.2 km of trail running. The course features an elevation gain of 170 m and a total distance of 12.9 km. It is open to individuals aged 16 and over.
- SwimRun: This longer distance consists of 3590 m of swimming and 20.2 km of running. The route includes 280 m of elevation gain for a total distance of 23.9 km. This category is open to participants aged 17 and over.
The event follows a self-sufficient ethos where external support is not permitted. However, the organizers provide feed stations along the course stocked with water, energy bars, and gels. Wetsuits are compulsory for all competitors. The terrain consists of mixed trails and paths shared with the public. While the route is waymarked, participants are provided with a map and are expected to have basic map reading skills. Baggage and changing facilities are available near the finish areas.
