Great New York State Marathon Weekend
The Great New York State Marathon Weekend is a multi-day running event held in Syracuse, New York. The courses are set within Onondaga Lake Park, featuring tree-lined paths that loop around Onondaga Lake. Participants can choose from several individual race distances or take part in multi-race challenges held over the course of the weekend.
The schedule of distances includes:
- 5K
- 10K
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 26.2 Miles (Marathon)
The 26.2 Miles course is officially certified and serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The event begins on Saturday with the shorter distance races, the 5K and 10K. The weekend continues on Sunday with the long-distance events, the Half Marathon and the Full Marathon.
For those seeking to complete multiple events, the Excelsior Challenge is available. This program requires participants to finish one race on Saturday and one race on Sunday. Specifically, runners can pair a 5K or 10K with either the Half Marathon or the Full Marathon. Those who finish both selected races in a challenge receive a special Excelsior medal in addition to the individual finisher medals for each race distance. All events take place in the area around Onondaga Lake and conclude at a designated finish line within the park grounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
