Great Naseby Water Race
The Great Naseby Water Race is an ultramarathon event held near Naseby in Central Otago, New Zealand. It uses a 10 km figure eight loop around a gravel road and a forest track beside the Water Race, the historic supply channel that gives the event its name. The event is held on the last weekend of August each year.
Distances offered for individual entry:
- 50 km : 5 laps
- 80 km : 8 laps
- 100 km : 10 laps
- 100 mile : 16 laps
- 200 km : 20 laps
- 200 mile : 32 laps
Team entry:
- 60 km team race with each runner completing 3 continuous laps (30 km each)
The course route begins on Wet Gully Road, 1 km from Ranfurly/Naseby Road, then follows Hoffmans Dam Road to Coalpit Dam, returns to the Water Race, passes the swimming dam and bridge, climbs Forest Walk, continues via Translator Road and Ramp Road, and returns to Wet Gully Road to complete the figure eight loop.
Race elevation reflects the setting in New Zealand’s highest town at about 2000 ft above sea level. Applicants for the 200 km and 200 mile races must show proven ultra experience, including race history and, where requested, completion of a 100 mile race in the previous 18 months or a reason for entry.
