Regeneron Great Limerick Run
The Regeneron Great Limerick Run is an annual mass-participation event held in Limerick each May Bank Holiday weekend. The event regularly brings together over 18,000 runners and takes place on closed-road routes through the city and along the River Shannon.
Runners can choose from several race distances. Courses are professionally measured and certified and use chip timing. The event provides a bespoke running T-shirt, a finisher’s medal, finish-line refreshments, and on-course support such as toilets and water stations at multiple points.
The marathon route starts in Pery Square and includes riverside sections, a stretch through the University of Limerick and past Thomond Stadium before returning to a city-centre finish on O’Connell Street. The half marathon and 6 Mile routes also run on closed streets and join the marathon for the final city-centre section.
Practical arrangements include a single small-bag drop for participants with separate locations for longer distances, posted or collected race numbers, recommended city centre car parks, and course cut-off times. Minimum age rules apply: 16 years for the 6 Mile and marathon relay leg, and 18 years for the half and full marathon. Results and official photos are published after the event.
