1st Annual Great Blue Heron Hustle
The Great Blue Heron Hustle takes place at the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center in Combine, Texas. This inaugural community event features a trail run through reconstructed wetlands, supporting environmental education, conservation, and habitat stewardship. The venue is located at 655 Martin Lane.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 10 km Trail Run
- 5 km Trail Run
- 1 Mile Fun Run
The 10 km and 5 km events are chip timed. The course consists of uneven trail conditions involving gravel and natural terrain. The layout weaves between wetland cells, berms, and meadows, with the 10 km distance requiring two laps of the 5 km loop. Directional signage and distance markers are placed throughout the course, and hydration stations are positioned at intervals of approximately 1.25 to 1.5 miles.
On-site amenities include food trucks, music, and a community market featuring local food and craft vendors. There are also specific activities designated for children. For participants in the timed runs, awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, as well as the top three finishers in various age groups ranging from 14 and under to 60 and over. Strollers and dogs are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
