Great Allegany Run : Cumberland, MD
The event offers two road races that start and finish in the Cumberland area. The main distance is a point-to-point 15K beginning in Mt. Savage and finishing in downtown Cumberland. The course features a nearly uniform elevation drop of 475 feet in the first 10K and runs gradually downhill through the Narrows into historic Cumberland. The shorter race is a 5K out-and-back that begins in downtown Cumberland.
Logistics are centered at Mezzos Restaurant, 114 S. Centre Street, Cumberland. Fifteen-kilometer runners meet there to be transported to the start line; runner bags are transported to the finish. Packet pick-up and late registration take place at Mezzos on the day before and the morning of the races. There is no registration or packet pick-up at the start lines. Cash and check payments are accepted; cards are not accepted.
Organizers close public roads for the 15K and apply a two hour time limit for that race. Route maps are provided. The post-race gathering at Mezzos includes food, music, prizes and beer.
