Greasy-Gooney 10K : Browntown, Virginia (24 October 2026)
The Greasy-Gooney is the 28th annual running of a small, low-key 10K (6.2 miles) road race held in Browntown, Warren County, Virginia around the peak of the Shenandoah Valley fall foliage season. Parking, registration, and the finish are located in Browntown near the intersection of Route 649 (Browntown Road) and Route 613 (Bentonville Road).
The certified U-shaped course (#VA99025RT) starts on Route 613, follows the Gooney Manor Loop up the Greasy Run valley and returns down the Gooney Run valley to Browntown. The first half gains about 480 feet of elevation while the second half is almost entirely downhill. The course is open to vehicular traffic.
Entry is limited to 140 runners. Entry-fee options include an entry with a black running cap or without a cap; different prices apply for early registration and race-day entry. There are trophies for the top three males and females overall and for top three in multiple age groups, plus random inexpensive prizes handed out during the awards ceremony. Any net proceeds will be donated to the Browntown Community Center Association and the Humane Society of Warren County.
Safety and event rules note that on-site medical assistance will not be available. Personal listening devices, baby joggers or strollers, dogs, and unregistered runners are not permitted; violations may result in disqualification and publication of names.
