Gower Coastal Trail Races
The Gower Coastal Trail Races consist of three long-distance trail running events set within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The courses follow the Wales Coast Path, taking participants through a landscape of beaches, bays, coves, farmland, and fishing villages.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Gower Ultra 50: A complete 50-mile circumnavigation of the Gower peninsula.
- Gower Ultra Bach: A 34-mile race that joins the main route at Weobley Castle.
- Gower Trail Race: A 23-mile race that covers the final section of the course.
The Ultra 50 begins on the cliffs overlooking Limeslade Bay, passes Mumbles Pier, and follows a flat path around Swansea Bay before heading through Clyne Woods to the north coast and the salt marsh flats of the Loughor Estuary. After Weobley Castle, the terrain becomes more varied with rolling cliff tops and a 5-kilometre section across Rhossili Bay. The final stretch for all runners heads east along the southern coast, passing through Port Eynon, Oxwich, Three Cliffs, Caswell, and Langland.
Navigation is managed through a combination of GPS, Wales Coast Path signage, and maps. Additional running arrows or flags are placed where the route departs from the Coast Path or at complex junctions. Participants are provided with GPS tracking, medical cover, and access to well-stocked checkpoints serving snacks and hot food. A finisher's medal and food are provided at the end of the event. An optional coach service to the start line is available for the Trail Race and Ultra Bach distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
