About the race
Göteborgsvarvet is a 21 km half marathon presented as the world’s largest half marathon. The 2027 edition is scheduled for 22 May 2027 and is reported sold out well in advance; the start field for 2027 is noted to be 48 percent women.
The race route passes through Slottsskogen, along Hisingen’s quays and past Avenyn. The event is accompanied by a large public presence, with the organiser reporting an audience of over 200,000 people, about 50 music stations and a number of activities along the course.
Göteborgsvarvet is part of Varvetveckan, a week that includes several other races and activities for different ages and abilities. The event also includes an Expo where runners collect their race bibs.
The race is organised by Göteborgs Friidrottsförbund to benefit athletics in the district. Around 3,000 volunteers from affiliated clubs and other sports clubs are engaged in the organisation. Net surplus from the event is used to support local club activities and to operate the training facility Friidrottens Hus.
Runners can order a personalised medal plate and a diploma as optional add‑ons until 31 May 2027; these items are sent by post roughly one month after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
