Göteborgsvarvet
Göteborgsvarvet is an annual half marathon held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The event features a 21 km course that passes through various landmarks of the city, including Slottsskogen, the quays of Hisingen, and the main street, Avenyn. The course is lined with approximately 50 music stations and attracts a large public audience of over 200,000 people.
The event is part of a larger week of activities known as Varvetveckan. In addition to the main half marathon, several other races are organized:
- 21 km (Göteborgsvarvet)
- 10 km (Varvetmilen)
- 4.3 km (Cityvarvet, starting at Götaplatsen)
- 2.4 km or 1.4 km (Specialvarvet, adapted for participants with disabilities)
- Relay race (Stafettvarvet, with four participants running a section each in Slottsskogen)
- 210 m (Minivarvet, for children aged 0-6 years)
- Youth race (Lilla Varvet, for children and teenagers aged 7-13 years)
Seeding rules apply to determine the starting groups for the main race to ensure a steady flow of runners. Participants can qualify for a specific group based on their previous results or pace. Related events include the Göteborgsvarvet Expo, a trade fair focused on running and inspiration. The event is organized by the Gothenburg Athletics Association to support local athletic activities.
