Goodnight-Loving Run
The Goodnight-Loving Run is a multi-distance event hosted by the historic Fort Belknap and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Graham, Texas. The event serves to commemorate the historic fort, which is known as the birthplace of the Goodnight-Loving Cattle Trail, a route that extended through the American West to Montana and Wyoming.
The race follows an out-and-back course starting from the entrance gate of Fort Belknap. Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half-Marathon
The event features a gear check service at the registration area where staff members secure personal items during the race. Water and aid stations are positioned along the course, provided by event sponsors. While walkers are permitted to participate in the 5 km and 10 km distances, they must be able to finish within the designated time limits. Due to safety considerations and the number of participants, pets are not allowed on the race course.
The run is held in conjunction with the Crawfish and Cannons festival. This larger event includes a live crawfish boil, hourly cannon firings, armadillo races, and a farmers market. An awards ceremony for the race participants takes place at the festival site following the conclusion of the runs. The venue also hosts the Texas Forts Trail Wine Festival, featuring various wineries and the largest native grape arbor in the United States. Ample parking is available for participants across from the fort on FM 61. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
