Event Overview
The Glimmerglass Triathlon is a multisport event held at Glimmerglass State Park and Otsego Lake near Cooperstown, NY. The race consists of three sequential disciplines: a paddle, a bike ride, and a run.
Distances and Disciplines
- Paddle – 1.5 miles: This segment is an open-water paddle, using a kayak or canoe. It begins at the beachfront and proceeds through the protected waters of Hyde Bay on Otsego Lake.
- Bike – 18 miles: The cycling course is a loop north of the park on quiet secondary roads.
- Run – 5K (approx. 3.1 miles): The running segment takes place within Glimmerglass State Park, crossing the Hyde Hall footbridge and using wooded trails.
Event Details
The event includes a team relay option for groups of three or four participants, where each member completes one discipline. Participants must provide their own equipment, including bicycles, kayaks or canoes, and personal flotation devices; rentals are available through the registration process. Life jackets must be worn during the paddle segment, and helmets are required for the bike portion. Water stations are provided along the running route.
Packet pickup and day-of registration are available on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at the park. Participant bikes and watercraft can be staged in designated areas on Saturday morning before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
