Glimmerglass Triathlon, Cooperstown NY
The event is a multi discipline triathlon held at Glimmerglass State Park around Otsego Lake. It consists of a paddle, a bike leg, and a final run that finishes near lakefront trails.
Distances and disciplines:
- Paddle: 1.5 miles, kayak or canoe, open water through protected Hyde Bay.
- Bike: 18 miles on secondary roads north of the park with rolling hills.
- Run: 5K through Glimmerglass State Park, crossing the Hyde Hall footbridge.
Transitions are staged at the beachfront and the lakefront pavilion. Bikes and kayaks or canoes are staged near the pavilion for transition; equipment staging is available on race morning. Participants must provide their own bikes, kayaks or canoes, and personal flotation devices, though rentals are offered through the registration process.
A team relay option allows teams of three or four to divide the paddle, bike, and run segments among members.
Support and services include official timing, a commemorative sweatshirt for those registered before Aug 1, a finisher medal, finish line food, on course water stations along the run, beer sampling for participants 21 and over, and a post race gathering. Results will be posted automatically on race day.
Safety rules require a wearable Type I, II, or III PFD for each person on watercraft, a sounding device such as a mouth whistle on each vessel, and helmets for cyclists which will be checked at staging. No refunds are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
