The Glasgow University Des Gilmore 5 Mile Road Race takes place on 17 October 2026 on the outskirts of Glasgow. The event continues to carry its current name in honour of a long-serving club member who died in July 2025. The race first ran in 1963 and 2026 marks its 63rd edition.
The course starts at Garscube Sports Complex and consists of a two-lap route on quiet roads around the local area. The layout offers a mix of generally flat sections and some hilly stretches. It is a UKA-certified 5 mile (8.05 km) course and is licensed by Scottish Athletics under UK athletics rules. Results will be published on Power of Ten and runBritain.
Entries are open online until 16 October 2026, subject to demand. On-the-day entries may be available at Garscube Sports Complex at an increased price of £15 but are not guaranteed. Entry prices listed for advance entry include discounted and standard options of £10 and £13 respectively until 16 October; a student entry option is shown at £10. The event lists up to 300 places.
On race day, registration, number collection and any on-the-day entries are handled at Garscube Sports Complex. Toilet and changing room facilities are available there. Prize-giving takes place inside the sports complex after the race with awards for senior and student male and female categories.
