Essex Celebratory 5K

The Essex Celebratory 5K is a season-ending Girls on the Run Vermont event on June 5, 2027 at Champlain Valley Expo. The event closes the program season with a community 5K that gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Program participants and coaches are already registered and do not need to register again. Every program participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal.

The 5K course is 3.1 miles and is presented as a fun, celebratory event rather than a competitive race; participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll, push, or skip at their own pace. Running Buddies are family members, friends, or mentors who run alongside participants for encouragement; Running Buddies must register. Online registration opens March 29, 2027, and online registration closes at 10pm on the Wednesday before the event. Registration fees vary by category: adult running buddy or community runner $25 online $35 day of, youth running buddy or community runner $10, and GOTRVT program alumni $10.

Event logistics include required race bibs, course sweepers to follow the last participant, a safety plan for staff and volunteers, designated accessible parking, and the ability to create a disability accessible route. Dogs are not allowed on Champlain Valley Expo grounds. Volunteers are needed for set up, registration, course support, water and cheer stations, and activity stations; volunteers must pass a background check. Merchandise will be available for purchase.
