Girls on the Run Philadelphia 5K Celebration

Girls on the Run Philadelphia holds a seasonal celebratory 5K as the closing event for its programs. The event is designed to give program participants of all abilities a tangible sense of accomplishment; every participant in the program receives a commemorative medal.

The event takes place on December 6, 2026 at The Philadelphia Navy Yard, 4747 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19112.

Community runners and running buddies have registration fees listed at $30 for community runners and running buddies and $25 for youth community runners. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council and do not need to complete additional registration.

The 5K course is 3.1 miles. The event is presented as a fun, celebratory occasion rather than a competitive race; participants are encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their own pace. A Running Buddy is an individual designated to complete the 5K alongside a program participant for the duration of the course, and parents or guardians may serve as running buddies. Family and community members may participate but must register.

Safety and accessibility measures include required race bibs, a council safety plan with course monitoring, designated parking, and an accessible porta-potty at the Celebration Village. Service animals are permitted; other pets are not allowed. The event is held rain or shine; organizers will communicate only in the event of dangerous weather. Liability waivers are required for registration.

Volunteers help operate the event; over 130 people are needed. Volunteer roles include Bike Marshal, Celebration Village, Course Marshal, Craft Corner, Finish Line, Site Support, and Water Stop. Additional activities at the event include music, games, crafts and a merchandise booth. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
