Girls on the Run Greater Houston 5K Celebration
The event is a season-closing celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The 5K course is 3.1 miles and is presented as a fun, non-competitive event where participants may walk, run, roll, push, or skip at their own pace. Crossing the finish line is described as a moment that builds confidence, and every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council and do not need to register again.
The event is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at Rice University, 6100 Main St., Houston, TX 77005. Registration pricing listed for general participants includes an early bird rate of $25 (August 1 - October 10), a general online rate of $40 (October 10 - November 6 at 3 PM), and a race day in-person rate of $50 (November 7). All registrations include liability waivers.
Accessibility and safety measures are noted: the course is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking spots are available. For safety, every participant must wear a race bib, the course is monitored with head counts, and staff and volunteers follow a council safety plan. Free parking is available near the race site via Parking Lots 13A and 13B from Greenbriar. Organizers recommend arriving at least one hour before the event to warm up and complete check-in.
Volunteer roles include set-up and tear down, registration, course marshals, running buddies, water stations, cheer stations, and activity stations. Volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check and virtual orientations are scheduled the week before the 5K with links and times to be determined.
