About the race
Girls on the Run Northwest Arkansas holds a seasonal celebratory 5K (3.1 miles) as the closing event for its programs. The event is designed to give program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; every registered participant who completes the course receives a GOTR medal and a t-shirt while supplies last. Family members, friends and community members may also register and take part in the event.
The council describes the 5K as noncompetitive. Participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace. Running Buddies accompany participants for the full course; a parent or guardian may serve as a Running Buddy. The council provides race bibs, course monitoring, head counts and a safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents. Designated parking is available and the event is accessible to people with disabilities.
The council also offers virtual 5K options and site based 5K options, where the course takes place at a team practice site. Volunteers support many tasks including packet pickup, set up and tear down, water stations, a happy hair station, cheer squad and the GOTR booth.
