About the race
The Gerês Extreme Marathon is organised by Carlos Sá Nature Events with support from the Câmara Municipal de Terras de Bouro. The event weekend in Vila do Gerês and nearby locations includes a series of running races spread over three days: an Extreme Mile, an ultra distance called Extreme 90k, and shorter races around the Gerês area.
Distances offered include:
- Extreme Mile with very steep inclines and marked elevation gain over one mile.
- Extreme 90k ultra trail.
- Race 12 km.
- Marathon 42 km.
- Half marathon 21 km.
- Mini race 14 km.
The marathon also features a relay option for teams of three, where each team member runs approximately one third of the distance; teams may choose segments on the day of the race without prior notice to the organisers. Transfers to specific start or transition points are provided by bus when requested. Event services across the weekend include an expo and a race secretariat in Vila do Gerês and guided visits tied to the race programme. Prize ceremonies are scheduled for each race.
