Gecko Rock Trail Run
The Gecko Rock Trail Run is an event hosted at Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve in the Nougaspoort Valley, Breede River DC, Western Cape. It is part of the Montagu Winter Trail Running Series organised by Makadas Adventures and forms one of six venues in the series.
The event offers multiple entry classes and distances:
- 5 km Fun Run
- 10 km Trail Run
- 16 km Trail Run
- 5 km or 10 km Walk
Routes run through Karoo vegetation, mainly renosterbos, and include a mixture of single track and jeep track. The 10 km course is described as a blend of single track and jeep track with climb sufficient for a workout. The 16 km route follows a more secluded valley, includes some rocky sections and mostly undulating jeep track, and passes through areas with free roaming game and other wildlife.
The course changes at this venue have included making sections more walk-friendly by avoiding technical rocky kloof sections. Water stations are provided on the longer trail options. Accommodation and other outdoor activities are available at the reserve, which emphasises environmental preservation and a variety of on-site recreational options.
