Shepherd's Fountain Trail Run
Shepherd's Fountain Trail Run is the second event in the Montagu Winter Trail Running Series, held at Rietvlei Montagu just outside Montagu off the R62. The venue is a working farm with established single track trails that are open to the public only for special events.
The routes run over karoo koppies and ridges and offer 360 degree views of the Klein Karoo landscape and the Langeberg mountains. Vegetation includes succulent Karoo and renosterveld species, with noticeable scents from plants such as Kapokbos. The trails are described as mainly single track and non-technical with rolling hills, sections of elevation gain and fast downhills.

- 6 km Fun Run - 194 m ascent
- 10.2 km Trail Run - 299 m ascent
- 14.2 km Trail Run - 374 m ascent
- Walking options 5 or 10 km
The Shepherd's Fountain event forms part of a six-venue series. Series entrants who enter all six events receive a R 300 discount on the full series, a series running cap valued at R 150, and collect six medals that combine into a special memento.
