Run For The Water
Run For The Water is an annual fundraising event located in downtown Austin. Organized by the Gazelle Foundation, the race directs all proceeds toward building clean water systems in Burundi. The event reached its 20th anniversary in 2026 and typically hosts over 5,000 participants who run or walk through the streets of downtown and west Austin.
The event features three primary distances:
- 10 Miles
- 5 km
- Kids K
The 10-mile route is a downtown waterfront course that takes participants through the Tarrytown neighborhood and hilly terrain, concluding with a flat finish line. This distance includes a specific 600-meter segment known as the Hill Challenge. All participants in the 10-mile race are automatically entered into this segment competition, which celebrates speed and determination on a steep portion of the course.
The event was co-founded by Gilbert Tuhabonye to support the mission of providing clean water access to communities in Africa. Participants of various experience levels participate in the event, which is recognized as a major fall race in the Austin area. In addition to the local races in Texas, a global run option is also available for those participating from other locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
