Gaspee Days 5k Road Race
The Gaspee Days 5k Road Race is a community running event held in Cranston, Rhode Island. The course follows a 3.1 mile distance (5 km) that has been bicycle calibrated. Participants run along the red, white, and blue road stripe of the Narragansett Parkway. The race begins on Broad Street at Chiswick Road, heading south into Warwick before turning at General Hawkins Drive and returning north. The finish line is located just past the parade reviewing stand at Rhodes Place.
The race features the following distance:
- 3.1 Miles
Participation is capped at 2,000 runners. Because the annual Gaspee Days Parade follows the race route immediately, a strict cut-off time of one hour is enforced for all participants. There is no registration available on the day of the event, and all runners must sign up in advance.
The course is lined with spectators awaiting the parade. Post-race activities include refreshments for all participants in a designated area near the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Runners aged 21 and over are eligible for one complimentary beer after the race, provided they show a valid photo ID. Logistics such as portable restrooms are available on-site, though there are no facilities for showers or storage. For safety and insurance reasons, the use of strollers, baby carriers, and pets is prohibited on the course.
Timing and results for the event are managed by Spitler Race Systems. Proceeds from the registration fees support the local community tradition of the Gaspee Days Parade. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
