About the race
The Galtee Challenge Duo is a partner mountain running race in County Tipperary over a planned distance of 29.00 km with approximately 2300 m of climb. The event is run as a duo: teams must start together, both members must visit all control points, and the team finish time is taken when the slower member crosses the line. Control points can be visited in any sequence and the race map is a suggested route only. The course is on open mountain terrain; the route is not marked and GPS use is allowed.
Entry fee is €30. Entries close on Wednesday 30th September 2026 at 18:00 and the event has a field limit of 200 entries (22 entered at the time of listing). The event difficulty is listed as Extreme and mandatory kit is Level C - Advanced. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, minimum 500 mL water carrying means, emergency food, map of the route/area and a compass. Organisers may carry out random kit checks and failure to carry required items may lead to denial of entry or disqualification.
The route starts and finishes at King’s Yard. There are eight control points including Galty Mor and Temple Hill, and an aid station is located at control point 4. Parking and basic facilities are available at the venue and prizegiving is at King’s Yard with awards for first and second teams in female, male and mixed categories.
