About the race
The Gaasterland Trail is a trail running event in Gaasterland, Friesland, held on 24 October 2026 as the ninth edition. The event emphasizes no-nonsense running, conviviality, fresh air from forests and meadows, and discovering new natural places along the route. Time registration is not used except for the 50 km distance.
Routes and surface characteristics:
- 10 km (Bonifatius) : about 99% unpaved, singletracks and wider horse paths.
- 24 km (Redbad) : at least 95% unpaved, with singletracks, horse paths, climbs and fields.
- 50 km (Grutte Pier Ultra) : ultra distance run on GPX, parts of other routes are also marked. Participation in the 50 km contributes to the UTMB index.
- Kids Trail : two distances: 850 m and 1.8 km; free entry for children and a small memento for each participant.
The event is a Support for Nature event; organizers include a €1 contribution per participant in the entry fee to prevent damage to soil and nature and to reduce nuisance for local residents. Registration is handled via the listed registration platform and, if participant limits allow, late registration on the day of the event may be possible.
