Frozen Chosin Challenge
The Frozen Chosin Challenge is a multi-day winter event at Johnson Shut-Ins State Park in Middle Brook, MO, held December 4 to 6, 2026. The event honors service members who fought during the Korean War and supports the Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Distances offered
- 40 miles : Chosin Challenge, 3 day, 2 night winter trek (registration closed)
- 17 miles : Devil Dog Challenge, 2 day, 1 night winter trek
- 4 miles : Warrior Course, wheelchair accessible walk
The Chosin Challenge follows sections of the Goggin and Ozark Trails and parts of Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. Courses include river fords, steep ascents and descents, and winter bivouac nights where applicable. The Devil Dog route begins at the Goggin Mountain trailhead and includes a one night bivouac and river crossing. The Warrior Course follows open fields and riverside trails and includes a 0.3 mile wheelchair-accessible boardwalk and benches along the route.
Team and participation rules vary by course. Chosin and Devil Dog require teams of 2 to 5 members; all participants must be part of a team. The Warrior Course is open to registered individuals and families. Minimum participant age is 15 when accompanied by a parent or an adult family member 18 or older; younger children on the Warrior Course are not considered participants and must remain with a guardian.
Capacity and fees are set per course. Finish recognition includes a 2026 Frozen Chosin Challenge coin, a challenge tee shirt, and completion certificates for finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
