4th Annual Friends 5K Run/Walk
The Friends 5K Run/Walk takes place at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute campus in Newark, Delaware. This annual event raises funds to support the Friends of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, a volunteer organization founded in 2002. Proceeds are used to fund cancer research, including efforts to accelerate the transition of scientific laboratory discoveries into clinical trials for patient benefit.
The event features a single distance:
- 5 km (Run or Walk)
Participants follow a specific course around the hospital campus, with designated parking available in Lot T or Lot M. On-site amenities include a finish line table providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks like bananas and oranges. The event also features family-oriented activities such as face painting and a photo booth, alongside live music by The Keepers.
The competition includes various awards based on gender and age categories. Honors are presented to the overall female and male winners, as well as the top three finishers in several age blankets ranging from under 9 to 80 and over. Separate recognition is provided for the overall female and male masters (age 40 and over). Additionally, a team prize is awarded to the largest group participating in the event.
