Freeway 5K Run for Recovery
The Freeway 5K Run for Recovery is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Ft. Mellon Park, 600 E. 1st Street, Sanford, FL. The event features a 5K (3.1 miles) running and walking course and raises funds for Freeway Sanford, a nonprofit that supports people overcoming addiction, homelessness, incarceration, and other life-controlling challenges.
Proceeds support recovery services including mentorship, transportation, housing assistance, and other opportunities aimed at helping participants rebuild their lives. Runners and walkers may take part.
Registration opens June 26, 2026. Fee levels vary by registration period and include $40, $45, and $55 options depending on when participants register. T-shirt sizes requested by registrants who register by Wednesday, August 19 will be guaranteed; sizes requested after that date may be limited.
Packet pickup is at the Colonial Room Restaurant, 105 E. 1st Street, Sanford, with in-person pickup on September 10 and September 11 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Packets may also be picked up at the event site on the morning of the event; a friend or family member may pick up a packet without ID.
Timing uses a disposable chip on the back of the race bib; bibs should be worn on the front just below the chest for accurate scoring. Results will be posted onsite and online. Free parking is available in the Palmetto parking lots by the Civic Center and Chamber of Commerce.
For safety, bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, motorized carts, and pets are not allowed on the course. Baby strollers and joggers are allowed but must start at the back; children in strollers do not need registration. There are no refunds or transfers; the event will take place rain or shine.
