VFI July 4th Freedom Run/Walk
The VFI July 4th Freedom Run/Walk is a community run and walk in Waverly, Iowa. The course follows a scenic one-mile loop that starts at Kohlmann Park, crosses the wooden bridge, passes City Hall, goes over the Bremer Avenue bridge, and returns to the park.
Participants may choose how many loops to complete. Options include:
- 1 loop (about 1 mile)
- 2 loops (about 2 miles)
- 3 loops (about 3 miles)
Each participant carries an American flag during the run and returns it at the finish. The event is organized as an untimed fun run with no official timing or medals. Organizers note that dressing in red, white, and blue is part of the event atmosphere.
Proceeds from the event support Veteran Flagpoles Initiative, with the goal of funding two flagpoles for veterans in Bremer County. Participants are invited to attend the planned dedication and installation ceremonies.
Registration opens April 15, 2026, and closes June 1, 2026. The registration fee is $25.00. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
