Freedom Run Backyard Ultra and 5K
The Freedom Run is part of the Goodridge Veterans Freedom Festival in Goodridge, MN. The event combines an annual 5K run/walk with a new Backyard Ultra endurance race. Proceeds support the Warrior Trail Foundation, a nonprofit that helps veterans through trail running.
The event offers two formats:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Backyard Ultra - 4.167-mile loop completed each hour
The 5K is a community-oriented run/walk that shares part of the same course as the Backyard Ultra. 5K participants will turn around on course to complete the distance. There are no awards for the 5K, but runner times will be recorded. Pre-registration is appreciated but not required.
The Backyard Ultra follows the traditional format of repeating a single 4.167-mile loop every hour. Runners must be present in the starting corral at the top of each hour, and the race continues until only one runner remains. Runners who complete 24 hours receive an award; the final remaining runner receives a unique prize. Crews are permitted; participants must provide their own food and supplies. A designated area near the start/finish will accommodate chairs, coolers, small items, and tents.
The course is described as very flat and runnable and starts and finishes near A.C. Tvedt Park. Registrations received by July 13 are guaranteed a T-shirt; later registrations are not guaranteed shirts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
