Freedom for Fighters Event to End Silent Suffering
The Freedom for Fighters 5K Walk/Run takes place in Mountain Home, Idaho on June 13, 2026. The course starts on the Mountain Home Walking Path at East 8th Street and finishes at Legacy Park on North Haskett Street. The event distance is 3.1 miles. It is presented in partnership with the City of Mountain Home and a local family.
The event honors people who carry hidden wounds, specifically those affected by PTSD and depression. Participants have the option to carry a backpack filled with donated canned goods to represent the emotional and physical burdens some people carry. Along the route there are checkpoints where participants may remove portions of the donated weight, with the intention that backpacks be fully emptied at least a quarter of a mile from the finish so the final segment can be completed without weight. A limited number of backpacks and canned goods will be available at the start for those who cannot bring their own.
Proceeds from the event are designated for charitable organizations that support veterans, first responders, and abuse victims, and to future plans for a healing ranch intended to provide long term support. The tone of the event emphasizes finishing the race and acknowledging those who are crushed in spirit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
