Freedom Classic 5K (All Ages)
The Freedom Classic is a USATF-certified 5K held in Mundelein with a course that runs along Recreation Drive, passes through Loch Lomond, and finishes at Keith Mione Community Park. The event uses a new timing company and is professionally chip-timed.
Registration opens April 15. Pricing tiers are stated for the 5K: a discount price before June 1, a regular price through early July, and a day-of price available at the Dolan Recreation Center front desk. The first 550 participants receive a race t-shirt; other participants may claim shirts in the weeks after the race. Registrations made by June 1 are guaranteed a chosen shirt size.
Awards include a $100 cash prize for the overall first-place male and female finishers and medals for first through third place in each age group. All fees are non-refundable in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances beyond the organizer's control; registration acknowledges this policy.
Packet pick-up is available before race day at the Mundelein Park & Recreation District office and on race day at the Dolan Recreation Center. The morning also features a free Firecracker Kids Fun Run for ages 10 and under; participants receive a freeze pop and a medal and no prior registration is required. A limited edition kids race t-shirt is available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the Mundelein Parks Foundation programming scholarships.
