Freedom Classic 5K (All Ages)
The Freedom Classic is an Independence Day road race held on July 4 on a certified USATF course. The chip timed 5K route goes along Recreation Drive and scenic Loch Lomond and finishes at Keith Mione Community Park. Participants are invited to wear red, white, and blue.
Registration fees vary by date: a discounted rate of $35 is available before June 1, regular registration is $45 from June 1 through July 3, and day of race registration is $55 at the Dolan Recreation Center. The first 550 registered entrants receive a race t-shirt; registering by June 1 guarantees shirt size. Prize awards include $100 cash for first overall male and female and medals for first through third in each age group.
Packet pickup is available in the days before the race at the Mundelein Park & Recreation District office at 1401 N. Midlothian Road, with additional pickup on race day inside the Dolan Recreation Center at 888 Dunbar Road, Mundelein IL 60060. A Firecracker Kids Fun Run for ages 10 and under is offered the same day; it is free, includes a freeze pop and a medal, and does not require registration. A limited-edition kids race t-shirt is available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the Mundelein Parks Foundation for programming scholarships.
