Event
The Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon takes place on June 6, 2026, at the Missouri Freedom Camp in Bourbon, Missouri (5992 Highway C). The event follows a Backyard Ultra, Last Man Standing format. Registration and entry details are provided by the organizer; there are no refunds and all proceeds are donated to the Freedom 13 Organization.
Course
The course is a measured loop of approximately 4.1 miles (about 6.7056 km) per lap. The terrain is described as undulating Midwest terrain with rolling hills, creek crossings, fields, small gravel road sections, rocky and root-covered stretches, and technical wooded trails. About half the course is wooded and shaded. Trails are generally wide enough for UTVs. A corral will be located at the barn next to the farmhouse. The main aid station and all aid stations will be at the barn, with small water points along the course. Onsite camping is available; hotels are about 15 minutes away in Sullivan, Missouri.
Format, Rules and Logistics
Each lap (Yard) starts one hour after the previous one. Competitors must be inside the starting corral at the bell and must start at the bell. Warnings are given before the bell. A Yard must be completed in less than an hour to count. Except for restroom breaks, competitors cannot leave the course during a Yard. No personal aid during a Yard and no artificial aids are allowed. Keeping lap times is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a Yard; all others are recorded by Yards completed. Registrants who sign up before May 6 are guaranteed a race shirt; later registrants are not guaranteed a shirt. There is a pre-race dinner and brief the night before at the Missouri Freedom Camp.
