Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon 2027
The Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon 2027 is a Last Man Standing style event held on June 5, 2027 at the Missouri Freedom Camp in Bourbon, Missouri (5992 Highway C). The format is open-ended backyard ultra with repeated loops or out-and-back segments. Each loop must measure 4 miles 880 feet, the metric equivalent of 6.7056 kilometers. Each loop must be completed within an hour and each new loop starts one hour after the previous one. Competitors must be inside the measured starting corral at the bell; late starts are not permitted.
Course terrain is undulating Midwest landscape with rolling hills, creek crossings, fields, and short gravel road sections. Trails are generally wide enough for UTVs, with some rocky and root-covered sections; most wooded trails are technical. About half the course is wooded and shaded during the day.
The corral and the main aid station are located at the barn next to the farmhouse. A small water point is placed along the course. The main aid station at the barn will offer food, drinks, and supplements for racers throughout the event. Keeping individual lap times is optional. Results are reported as the number of loops, or yards, completed; the winner is the last person to complete an additional yard while others are recorded as DNF if they do not outlast that competitor. The race is open-ended.
Onsite camping is available and there are hotels about 15 minutes away in Sullivan, Missouri. Race shirts are provided to entrants who register before May 5; later registrations are not guaranteed a shirt. A pre-race dinner and brief is planned the evening before at the camp.
