VCG - Freedom 5K (Friendswood)
The VCG - Freedom 5K in Stevenson Park, Friendswood, is a charity road race organized to raise educational grants and scholarships for veterans, spouses, and children. The event is the inaugural edition and is planned to be held annually on the Saturday before Veterans Day. It benefits Veteran College Grants, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports veterans pursuing college degrees, trade schools, technical certifications, and new career opportunities after military service.
The course starts and ends inside Stevenson Park near the white gazebo and runs through Old Town Friendswood beneath large oak trees. The race is chip timed by Run Houston Timing and uses a professional inflatable start and finish with a digital race clock. Results are posted to RunSignup accounts and the Veteran College Grants events page.
Participants receive a gold finisher 5K medal, an official race bib, and an ultra soft performance event shirt with the first 300 registered participants guaranteed their selected size. Additional activities scheduled the same day include a farmers market in the park, a coffee station, face painting for children, community vendor canopies, and music with a DJ. Parking is available at Friendswood City Hall and the main parking lot. Registration fees are listed as $35 for adults with fundraising encouraged and $20 for children under twelve with no fundraising requirement.
