Free State Trail Run
The event takes place at the Delaware Trailhead of the Perry MTB Trails near Meriden and Ozawkie, Kansas, and is organized by Trail Nerds. Distances offered include:
- 40 Miler
- Marathon
- 1/2 Marathon
- 1/4 Marathon (one 6.75 mile loop)
The course is run entirely on single track through hardwood forest. The trails are described as rocky and technical with occasional views of Lake Perry. The loop length is 6.75 miles; race distances are completed by repeating the loop the required number of times.
Aid and logistics: the staffed start/finish aid station is stocked with sports drink, water, Coke, Ginger Ale, and food items; remote unstaffed water points are located at mile 2.6 and mile 4.3 and will only have water. There will be full aid and porta potties at the start/finish area. Runners are advised to carry a hydration device since remote stations do not provide cups.
Timing and awards use manual timing and runners must wear bib numbers visibly on the front of their body. Finishers receive distance specific hardware and 40 Miler finishers receive finisher caps. A T shirt and logo mug are provided to participants who register before October 2nd.
Additional notes: one drop bag is allowed for all distances except the quarter marathon. Forty mile runners must include a flashlight or headlamp in their drop bag and carry a working light for late sections. Human pacers are permitted only for the final two loops of the 40 Miler with a waiver and pacer bib. Canine pacers are allowed up to the half marathon with required paperwork and on leash.
