Free State Trail Run
The Free State Trail Run takes place in Meriden, Kansas, at the Delaware Biking and Hiking Trails. The course consists entirely of 100% single-track trails set within a hardwood forest. The terrain is described as rocky and technical, with views of Lake Perry available during the race. The event follows a 6.75-mile loop format, featuring approximately 752 feet of ascent and 752 feet of descent per loop.
Participants can choose from four distinct distances based on the number of loops completed:
- 40 Miler: 6 loops
- Marathon: 4 loops
- 1/2 Marathon: 2 loops
- 1/4 Marathon: 1 loop (6.75 miles)
The race uses manual timing, and participants are required to wear their bib numbers on the front of their bodies. A staffed aid station at the start and finish area provides water, sports drinks, soda, and food items. Remote, unstaffed aid stations are located at mile 2.6 and mile 4.3, providing water only. These remote stations do not provide cups, so runners must carry their own hydration device or water bottle.
Registered participants receive a t-shirt and logo mug if registered by the specified deadline, and all finishers receive distance-specific hardware. For the 40 Miler and Marathon distances, a drop bag area is available at the start and finish line. Human pacers are permitted only for the final two loops of the 40 Miler, while canine pacers are allowed for distances up to the 1/2 Marathon under specific rules.
