Free State Trail Run
The event is a multi-distance trail run at the Delaware Trailhead of the Perry MTB Trails near Ozawkie and Meriden, KS. The course is a 6.75 mile loop run entirely on single-track trails through hardwood forest. The trail is rocky and technical with occasional views of Lake Perry. Elevation change per loop is about 752 ft ascent and 752 ft descent.
Distances and loop counts:
- 40 Mile: 6 loops, approximately 40 miles
- Marathon: 4 loops
- Half Marathon: 2 loops
- Quarter Marathon: 1 loop, 6.75 miles
Aid and support are concentrated at the start and finish area where a staffed aid station offers sports drink, water, Coke, Ginger Ale, and food items. Two remote unstaffed stations at mile 2.6 and mile 4.3 provide only water and no cups, so a hydration device is required. Full aid and porta potties are available only at the start and finish.
Other details include manual timing with bibs to be worn on the front, distance specific finisher awards and hardware, swag for early registrants, and drop bag access for all distances except the quarter marathon. Human pacers are allowed only for the 40 mile event and only for the final two loops; canine pacers are allowed up to the half marathon with required rules and form. Course markings include reflective directional arrows and wrong way signs at intersections. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
